I just saw this and had to rush right over here and post about the awesomeness:  Cotton Babies has released FOUR new colors for their uber-fantastic bumGenius 3.0 One Size pocket diapers!  Besides an option for snaps instead of Aplix, new colors have been one of the most often requested features from customers and devoted fans of bumGenius.  And here they are!

Okay, so they’re basically just deeper shades of the existing bumGenius diapers.  But that’s the thing.  They’re deeper and darker and all around just cool.

I’m thinking I’ll have to at least have a Zinnia.  Though Clementine really appeals to me too. The other two are more overwhelmingly boyish (I would probably stick to Grasshopper and Twilight rather than get those for my wee little girl), but if you have a boy, that might be just what you want.  Like I said, a lot of people have griped about the pastel colors of the bumGenius diapers before so this should make a ALOT of people happy.

Still, I hope in the future to see some simple prints, maybe a red and definitely some purple or lavender diapers!  A girl can dream, can’t she?

SQUEE!

As I’m sure you’ve heard, I love BumGenius diapers.  I’m not sure why I love them so much.  It could be that they’re nice and trim.  Could be that the aplix is easy to use and husband/babysitter/grandparent approved.  Could be that it will fit Kitten for a while to come.  Could be because we’ve never had a leak, even overnight (with both inserts).  I am sure, though, that if you’re unfamilar with BumGenius diapers, you might be a little confused when I talk about them.

There are three types of BumGenius diapers, the 3.0, the AIO, and the new Organics.

The 3.0 is typically the diaper that most people are referring to when they say BumGenius.  It’s a one-size pocket diaper, that has three rise sizes that are adjusted by snaps.  It has a pocket at the back, and comes with 2 microfiber inserts (one is a “newborn” size, and the other is an adjustable size).  It has PUL on the outside, and white suedecloth on the inside (this is a lot like microfleece only a lot thinner, and more fine).

BumGenius also offers an All-In-One diaper.  The AIO is a sized diaper - meaning that you have to buy different sizes as your baby grows (unlike the 3.0).  It still has a PUL outer, Suedecloth inner, and microfiber inside.  The difference is that you don’t stuff this diaper - it’s a very easy diaper to use.  The only problem is that AIO are notoriously hard to dry.  They take a long time because only one size is permeable.  Plus, you have to buy more than one size, which increases your cost.

The newest addition to the BumGenius lineup are the Organics.  It is an AI2 diaper, which means that it isn’t quite as streamlined as the AIO above.  A typical AI2 has a lay-in soaker, or a snap in soaker, but from what I can read, there’s nothing to undo or do up about the Organic.  You do have to fold the inside back up.  It’s loose so it dries faster, which is really something to be interested in.  The major difference is that this diaper is made of organic cotton, so babies who are sensitive to man-made fabrics should be able to wear this diaper no problem!  It’s also great for moms who are sensitive about what they put on their baby’s bottoms.  This is a one-size diaper, so you don’t have to buy multiple sizes (just multiple colours for fun!).  Don’t forget with organic cotton fiber, it needs to be fully prepped.  This means washing and drying several times before it reaches it’s full absorbency.  You can use it before it’s fully prepped, it just won’t absorb as much (AKA - maybe just use it for the day for the first half dozen uses).

BumGenius also has a slew of other products.  They have an Odor Eliminator, a bottom care spray (cleaner to use with cloths), diaper sprayer (to hook up to your toilet), Egyptian Cotton flat diapers, and flannel baby wipes.  You can view their whole product line-up at cottonbabies.com.  If you need replacement (or extra) inserts for your existing BG diapers, you can buy those as well!  The cottonbabies website also lists a BumGenius bamboo fitted, but the links don’t go anywhere.  I’m not sure if it’s a new product or a discontinued one, but I would love to get my hands on one of those to try out!

The only BumGenius I own is the 3.0.  Hopefully sometime this week, we’ll be able to branch out and pick up an Organics one (as well as 2 more 3.0’s).  I’ll definitely let you know what I think of the Organic diaper, how it stacks up against the 3.0.

I’m still here!

I haven’t given a good “cloth diapering update” in a while and I wanted to let you all know that I’m still here and going strong!  While my daughter’s rash isn’t 100% gone, it’s not near as bad as it was.  I’m thinking it just had to run it’s course, though I did whatever I could to keep the redness down.

Evie is still 100% cloth diapered.  At this point, I don’t think I would dream about putting a disposable on her.  We don’t even have any in the house that would fit her any longer!  Her “stash” is still pretty small and I would love the opportunity to grow it someday but there just hasn’t been a good opportunity to do so.  Plus, whenever I get the chance I just want to buy fancy, expensive stuff instead of something practical.  Bad mama!  Here is our stash:

  • 6 bumGenius diapers (three of these are generally worn by Liam part time, however, and Evie only wears them very occasionally.)
  • 10 5 unbleached Indian prefolds (whoops, miscounted) (I have found I prefer the softer Indian prefolds)
  • 2 prorap covers
  • 1 WAHM-made PUL cover that I love so much it hurts. (it’s lavender and is lined with cozy fleece and is a side-snapping style that I am finding I HEART so much)
  • 4 fitteds including 1 Bagshot Row Bamboo (BSRB) apre-fitted style fitted, 1 goodmama (GM), 1 Sammy One Size (SOS) and 1 Muttaquin 3 step rise (Mutt 3sr).  The BSRB has a very low rise and I generally use it when I want Evie to “air out” or when we’re sticking around home.  It’s very trim but not very practical.  I still don’t really care for the Mutt.  Too many snaps!  I am finding I kinda enjoy the SOS, even if the print isn’t especially fabulous and my favorite fitted is the GM.  Go figure!
  • 5 prefitteds (3 tinkle traps and 2 of another brand that I’ve forgotten the name of already).  A prefitted stands for a “prefold fitted”.  It’s essentially a prefold that has been cut and sewn to resemble a fitted diaper but usually lacks the closure (I use a Snappi to close them).  I LOVE these and use them all the time here at home.  They have elastic in them to contain messes and fit the baby better and they are the right price!
  • 5 Rumparooz (RaR) pocket diapers. I have two prints, one solid and two minky.  My favorite BY FAR is the one with snaps that I just recently got off FSOT.  I now wish all my RaR diapers had snaps because I had the Aplix on the RaR diapers.  I WISH I had a snap press or knew someone with one so they could convert the RaR for me.

And there you have it. 33 28 diapers.  Wow, that’s a lot more than I would have thought I had.  I guess because at least three of those diapers aren’t generally worn by my daughter that I think I have less?  I still do diaper laundry every 2-2 1/2 days.  And I still want more diapers!  I want more fitteds and prefitteds as well as more snap RaR diapers.  Maybe some more bumGenius too, if I got lucky enough to find them at our local Target (had you heard that some Targets now have bumGenius diapers??).  Or come in on another seconds sale, because that was a great deal.  I do wish I had more diapers so that I could use them on Liam more, help him gear up to potty training.  I don’t think I want to try to do prefolds on him.  I’m not THAT brave.

So what’s up with you all?  What do you think is missing from your diaper stash?  m

Two days ago, I was surfing Diaper Swappers, and came across a sale by a Work At Home Mom (WAHM), for discounted diapers and free shipping.  I went to her site, and was THRILLED!  She had cute diapers!  They were really well priced!  I could totally afford one and support a WAHM (I always think this is important, but I have rules on how much I will spend on a single diaper).  So I drooled over her site looking at every single diaper trying to decide which one I wanted.

The problem is that she makes a one-size diaper, which comes in two sizes.  Confusing, right?  Well, not really - one is aimed at small babies, and one is aimed at older babies/toddlers.  She had both sizes in the diaper I wanted (red outside! cow print inside!), and I initially ordered the smallest one.  About 2 minutes after I hit “check out”, I had instant buyer’s remorse.  I should have bought the bigger one!  So, I emailed her, and she was soooo sweet and said that she would refund me the money, but the bigger one had JUST sold.  I was so disappointed!  I knew that I should have bought that one when I first thought about it!

She did say that she was going to sew a whole bunch more up this weekend, and that she’d have new stock next week.  I’m really excited to see what she has, but I’m worried.  What happens if her “regular price” diapers are out of my price league?  I was really thrilled for the quality and size of diaper that I would be getting at the sale price, but what if it gets out of my range?  I’ll be so sad.  Presently, I do know that she doesn’t have any more cow print (cry!!), and possibly no red (I don’t remember what she said), so I’m not sure what I’ll be looking for, come next week.

If anyone is looking for a smaller-end expandable pocket diaper, be sure to check out Happy Cheeks Diapers!  I haven’t used these yet, but they look fantastic!  Also, if anyone has any rants/raves about HCD, let me know - I’d love to go in to this a little less blind!
