One bummer about using cloth diapers is that no one wants to hear you talk about them. Deep down, I just wish that someone in ‘real life’ would see my diapers and say, “Those look different. What are they?” Then I could tell that person that I use cloth diapers, and that they’re actually really cool, and that person would respond with, “Wow! I had no idea!”
My intention isn’t to convert the whole world to cloth (although that would be a plus). I just want to have a meaningful conversation with someone who is genuinely interested. I feel like this is a part of my life that I can’t share with anyone. There have been a few instances when I have forced cloth diaper conversation on people just to see if I could pique their curiosity, but as you all probably know, that never turns out well. No one wants an ear full of information they didn’t ask for.
Of course, there’s you. My wonderful friends of the internet. I’m so thankful to have this in common with you. It would just be nice to have someone outside of the computer to talk to once in a while. I’m sure you know what I mean. I promise I’m not taking you for granted.
So tell me, do other people ever ask you about cloth diapers? Do you crave Diaper Talk like I do?
My good friend is big into cloth diapering (although she’s a strictly prefold & cover girl with the odd fuzzi bunz thrown in). We talk about it a lot. I even stripped her diapers for her this weekend. I get lots of cloth talk with her.
But my cloth talk tends to spill over. I tell everyone I know when I’m expecting a new and exciting diaper in the mail, and once it’s here, I make everyone touch it (when it’s clean, of course) to ooh and ahh, over how soft it is. I am quite sure that they are only oohing and ahhing because it will make me go away.
Then there is my one friend who has decided that she WANTS to cloth diaper her due-any-day-baby. I am SO EXCITED, and I’m trying to sell her on the Bum Genius (I think it will be easiest for her). I really need to have her over and let her “shop” through my stash. Hmmm… Maybe I should plan this for next week.
I’m actually selling a friend on cloth. She’s due in October and I’m so excited she’s into it! I also get my fix by going to cloth diaper chats in town.
